Hmm... okay, so the standard thing that usually happens is still... not much. Yeah, that fits with what I remember.
I have to agree with Ernie. If we all spend the day doing nothing, it's a day wasted and we might as well have just started from a night phase.

Night 1 will begin Thursday, July 5, by 10:00 PM US Eastern Time. ...? You guys should try to learn from ramen and UM. If you read into how people word things, and vote based on that, you can get things rolling even before you have any night actions. Let's have everyone posting, so we can not only get reads from you, but make progress. That's great and everything, but if there's nothing to talk about on day 1 then there's nothing to evaluate. If we talk about something meaningless to get the ball rolling, it means that nothing we say has any impact on the game, and therefore cannot really be used as evidence against someone.

Meow: If you read into how someone says something, you can tell a bit about their intentions. Are they trying to waste the day or are they trying to make the best use of it? Are they posting just to post or are they actually meaning what they say? If there is nothing to talk about, then talk about what's been posted already. I'll start with some random questions to get things rolling then. Feel free to answer other people's questions, as they're very general.
Meow: There will probably be a Janitor given the few number of main characters. What do you think about soft claiming?
Capcommaster: You tend to not post much, regardless of your alignment (vacations, I assume). What do you say is one thing you do differently when you play as Town?
NPR: What do you think about the playstyles of ramen and UM? Is it possible to read in between the lines into people's posts and guess their intentions?
Softguitar: What was your strategy as a doctor? How do you decide who the mafia will target?
Monstrman: You tend to play off gut feelings a lot. If you could take a stab at who's mafia based on the posts so far, who would it be?
Miracle Fassad: Do you like post restrictions or does it reveal too much about roles?
Malick: You were gonna stream Princess Bride, but I didn't see it up. Do you think there are enough main characters that the mafia can have fake claims?
kcaltrain: Since you started playing mafia, what have you learned? What kind of information do you glean from people's posts?
Worthy Protoplasm: Gonna try and post more this time around? Do you see the importance of making good posts for the other players?
kirawillwin: If you were a Cop, is it better to investigate a person that is a focus of discussion or someone that isn't making many posts?
Linnet: How have you been? You haven't played mafia here in a while, but what games still stand out in your memory and why?
Robbiecon: How's RBO doing? If you were a vig/saboteur, would you kill/block on the first night or wait until you had better reads?

I forgot to ask, so this is for everyone: What is your stance on voting? Should it be limited to surefire suspicions, or is voting for your top suspect at the time okay, regardless of proof. Are you going to try and vote every game day?

I usually protect the people who are likely to be town in my eyes or whoever's trying to help other people. I think the mafia tries to kill those people first. I wouldn't know. It's just gut feeling and pure luck.

@ernie In my opinion unless the person who is the active focus of conversation is being called into directly as if he is mafia or not, I would investigate the less active players because we CAN'T get a read on them if the dont say anything

Alright, so first of all, I will say that I do indeed have my role. Next, thanks Erniewan for providing us with some material to actually talk about. In relation to RBO, it has become pretty quiet these days. I tried to set up another Rock Band based mafia game on the site, but have only succeeded in getting one signup in about two weeks Now to move on to your questions relevant to this game. If I was a vig, I wouldn't do anything tonight, I would deem it far too risky, and it would likely result in a second town death (the first being the mafia kill of course), rather than a mafia death. If I was a saboteur, I would probably roleblock tonight, given that I wouldn't be removing a player totally from the game, and it would help to provide more information, especially if no kills occur during the night phase, it provides a very decent argument for tomorrow's lynch. In relation to voting for today, I deem it somewhat important, but for the same reason I wouldn't carry out a vig tonight, it could take out a townie. Unlike a vig kill though, it gives us more information, as eager beavers for a lynch could well be bandwagoning scum. For regular voting, I think if you have a feeling, you should go with it. This could be an actual scan result, post analysis, or merely a general feeling that something isn't quite right with someone. Also, as a final add-on, I hadn't actually seen the movie until today. My general feeling is why didn't I see it years ago Very good.

Thank you for the discussion suggestions, Ernie. I wanted to do something like that but I was trying to think of a single topic of discussion and I just blanked on it. Linnet: How have you been? You haven't played mafia here in a while, but what games still stand out in your memory and why? I've been pretty busy! Taking classes, visiting my fiancee, trying to learn to make flash games. I've got a summer class that starts Monday so I might be slightly less active than I'd prefer but I'll still be posting. (well, assuming I'm still alive.) Past mafia games... hmm. The ones clearest in my mind are probably still the themed ones from back on Starmen, just because they were so huge and fast-paced. Looking back on them I kind of feel like I got lucky in the ones that went successfully for me: so many things I did could've gone differently, but things I had no effect on worked out in my favor anyway.

... I swear I hit preview, not post, but whatever I guess stuff merges now anyway?
From those games... from a flavor perspective my favorite role was probably ninja baker, because I love baking. Being a bus driver in the one was really fun, and being mafia in the other was also excellent - basically every role I had I enjoyed, except for the Mother 3 game where I ended up as an indie survivor (I think?) with a difficult to achieve pair of additional win/lose conditions.
I think I prefer working in a team of some sort to just being on my own. So I've enjoyed playing as town (especially in masonries) or mafia, but as an independant without any kind of partner I just kind of stopped caring.
Aside from those games, another one that stands out in my mind is the post restriction mafia game that I replaced into here ages ago, because I did so badly. I was town and I think I had to claim somehow and I came up with this horrible-to-post-in restriction and the whole thing was just a pathetic mess. Ugh.
Weirdly enough I really enjoyed the big Nintendo mafia game here but I don't remember the details so much. I think I died fairly early on, so maybe that's why. I suppose it's natural to more clearly remember the games that I played a more active role in.

@ ernie, my answer has officially been given for your first question. As to your second: I think voting is always a good thing, it lets everyone know your stance on things. Should be reserved for your top suspect of the day, and then you can be suspicious of anyone else of course. I personally like to reserve FoSes for people whom I deem suspicious, but less suspicious than the person I am voting, or if their suspicion hinges on a person's alignment flipping a certain way.
If there is "proof" of a person being mafia (I say proof because nothing in this game is ever 100% guaranteed), then that person usually becomes my top suspect with my previous suspect becoming the second most important thing in my priorities.
I do intend to not only vote once every game day, but to call out at least one other person for being suspicious.
I'm going to say I'm a little weirded out by mf's "post restriction", but possibly moreso by the fact that Malick took it without a grain of salt. It's possible that either he automatically "believed" the claim, because he knows the claim to be truth, or he genuinely believes it. I'd say it's about 60% likelihood that if one or the other is scum.
Still voting kcaltrain for his "I'm not doing anything because I can" attitude. We have no need for that kind of talk around here, especially on day 1.

I don't know if Miracle Fassad's post restriction is real or faked but it's obviously based off of the wisping pwiest lisping priest. Real or faked, all I know is it's kind of amazing.

Ernie, to answer your question: I'm against soft claiming in this instance, but that's because I haven't watched the movie.
I'd be better off asking you the same question: Seeing as you have seen the movie, do you think that people's alignments would be clear from the name of their characters? Are there many ambiguous roles?
If your answer is no, then I see no reason for it.

Also after re-watching the movie. I've realized MF is not Fezzik, but the priest that "weds" Humperdinck and Buttercup.

I'm going to ask everyone a question, and I fully expect everyone to come up with at least one answer, that doesn't necessarily have to be backed with a vote or any concrete evidence, but still you better tell me.
Who is everyone suspicious of this game? Doesn't matter if it's evidence or gut feeling, I want one suspicion from everyone or dammit I am voting you all off this island!
Follow up question: Are you suspicious enough of said person to vote/FoS them?
