Welcome to Fire Emblem Battle Royale! It's a web/forum game not unlike Mafia, but it's totally different, and really cool! We’ve gathered the best fighters from around the country to participate in this unique competition to find which among them comes out on top. You will have to eliminate all the other fighters to prove your dominance. I, Erniewan, will be your moderator for this game.
This time, there are no explosive collars around your necks. But you are on an island battleground surrounded by lava with no physical escape route. And I am a Dragon, capable of killing any of you whenever I please with my flame breath. To allow you to make more of a difference in the game you will be given votes to decide on which zones to close/protect, who receives reward items, and person(s) for me to eliminate.
Good luck, and show us the reason why we’ve chosen you.
Roles:
Regular Combatant - Most of you will be a regular combatant. You may all band together or start shooting at each other. To win, you must either:
1) Be last man surviving.
2) Leave the island using Warp Staffs.
3) Defeat me, the Dragon, and survive to tell about it.
Lone Wolf - These fighters actually enjoy killing! There are only one or two Lone Wolves with one goal: Be the last man surviving. No teams, no mercy. (They are, of course, more than willing to pretend to team up, just stab them in the back at the end. )
Note: See the Database thread for Unit info.
Turns
The game is played over a few weeks with a maximum of 20 rounds. (The different rounds aren't actually timed, it's whenever I've had a decent amount of moves PMed back to me, say 75-80%.)
At the beginning of each turn you will be given a list of fighter units in all the areas along with their current weapon (Note: A player may change their current weapon during their turn). Each turn you may do one action from each of these categories:
Category I:
a) Attack
Attacks your target. The maximum chance to hit is 95%, so you will always have a 5% chance of living if attacked. (Usually, it's more!) Hit rates sometimes go above the maximum percentage (95%) allowed, in which case it's reduced back to the maximum limit.
You may attack with a weapon you are given or picked up; see weapon/unit descriptions for their stats and to see if you are able to use it.
Attacks are normally resolved in the following order: Ranged -> Melee. There are areas on the map that may change this order, which are noted. Lone Wolf attacks are always resolved first in order (i.e. Lone Wolf could be first in Melee, but may be killed with Ranged before). The rest of the attacks are resolved according to Speed. Defensive items resolve when they are applicable to attacks. If you are killed before your attack has been resolved, your attack will not occur.
b) Defend
Defending reduces your chance to be hit by 25%. You may defend another person instead. Defenses don’t stack, so don’t try to defend with more than one. If you have more than one weapon, you may swap which one is currently active.
c) Staff
There are different staves located on the island. These can only be used by a magic-user, so it may be in your best interests to team up with and protect one. The effects of these staves vary from healing to causing status changes to warping off the island. By default, healing takes place before any attacks are made, although you can specify to heal after attacks if that fits your strategy. Warp staves can be used to get off the island, but be sure to warp your team members before yourself, since you can only use the staff once per round and will leave them without a staff user.
d) Rescue/Drop
If you have a horse or flying unit or a large unit (General, Warrior, Berserker), you may rescue another unit (that isn’t one of the aforementioned). All attacks directed at the rescued unit will be directed at the rescuer while he is holding the unit. In addition, the rescuer’s hit rate will decrease by 10% and his chance of being hit will increase by 15%. The rescued unit may perform his actions prior to being rescued, but will thereafter be unable to perform any actions until the turn after he is dropped. Dropping someone will take an extra turn, and the dropped unit will be inert during the turn he is dropped. This action is useful for rescuing a weak or wounded unit and taking him safely farther away from enemies. If the rescuer is killed while he is holding someone, he dies and the rescued unit is automatically dropped.
e) Use a non-weapon item
If you have one, you may use an item such as a vulnerary. You may not use an item you just found or received, until the following round. You must specify if you wish to use the item before or after any attacks.
f) Fight the Dragon
If you are on or adjacent to the Ruins, you can attack me, the Dragon. You will attack first, followed by a counterattack by me (my range is 1-2). I have 100 HP, and a lot of defense, so it will take a couple of you to take me down, and some may perish. Only the person who does the final blow will be a winner though, and the game will continue, with the winner getting a free trip off the island. I will not be dead and will still moderate, but there will no longer be any zones closed or protected, and no more mod-kills. Since my counterattacks will be quite powerful, I suggest not doing this unless you have a large team with a great strategy, and willing to sacrifice. I will not attack unprovoked though, so feel free to browse the Ruins unthreatened.
Category II:
a) Move
You may move a number of zones within the range of your unit. You may move at the beginning of your turn or the end of your turn. If you move at the beginning, you can attack someone in another zone at a reduced hit rate of 20%, and your chance of being hit is reduced by 20%. If you move at the end of your turn, your chance to hit is normal, but your chance to be hit is reduced by only 10%.
b) Search
You may search the area you are in for items. Some areas have 1-3 items that can be found. If there is a dropped item (i.e. someone died there) you will find that instead, in order of most recent to oldest. If you know a specific item was dropped in an area, you can also search specifically for that, but will receive no item if that one is not there. If two or more people are searching for an item, the order of recovery is based on Speed. You can receive a maximum of only one item a round by searching.
c) Research Person
Your target must be in the area you are in. You will figure out the person’s identity, find out if that person is a Lone Wolf, and determine that person's stats and items. You will also gain a 15% chance to hit them, but only for the next round.
d) Visit Secret Shop
On one zone on the battleground, there is a secret shop. To enter the secret shop, you must have a Member Card (you will be notified when you are the right zone, if you have a Member Card). To buy something from the secret shop, it will cost you a White Gem. Your efforts will be rewarded; there is great stuff in a secret shop!
Free Actions
You may do the following for free in addition to your turn's action:
1) Give item to person in same area.
2) Trade item with person in same area. (Only goes through if both people agree and I receive a PM from both parties.
3) Drop item.
4) Chuck item into lava. (If on outer area, not inland. Item will not be seen again.)
Game Start
At the start of the game, you will be given a random class and weapon (correlating to the class) or item and will be placed at a random area. Turn 1 will begin with a 25% defense bonus in order to allow everyone to get familiar to gameplay.
How do I figure out my hit percentage and damage?
The following shows the formulas for calculating your critical hit percentages, hit rates, and damage for attacks. I will do all the calculations, so no need to memorize the formulas, or even calculate them beforehand, just keep the different factors in mind when attacking.
There exists a couple of weapon triangles that affect the hit percentages of your attacks:
Weapon Triangle: The Weapon Triangle lowers hit by 15% and weapon might by 1 on the losing end, and raises hit by 15% and weapon might by 1 on the winning end. Swords beat Axes beat Lances beat Swords. Light beats Dark beats Anima beats Light. A reaver weapon will act in reverse of the Triangle.
Effective Against: Weapons that are effective against an enemy (such as bows against Fliers) double their weapon might against said enemies.
Hit Rate = Weapon Hit Rate + Weapon Triangle + Skl + 3*(Spd – Target Spd) – Target Terrain Evasion + Movement Evasion or Penalties + Defense Bonus + Rescuing Penalties + Research Bonus
Ex: Hit percentage:
A weapon has a specific chance to hit. (Hand axe has 60%)
Your weapon has an advantage over the target, +15%. (Target has lance, 75%)
Your Skill level is 22. (97%)
Your unit is slower, take thrice the difference of Speed levels, 3*(17-20) = -9%. (88%)
The target is in a forest terrain, and you are using a ranged weapon, -20%. (68%)
The target is moving to a new location this turn, -20%. (48%)
You just moved into the area this turn, -20%. (28%)
The target is being defended by his ally, -25%. (3%)
The target is rescuing another unit, +15%. (18%)
You researched the target last round, +15%. (Final: 33%)
A random number from 1-100 is 55, so your attack fails.
Note: If the final Hit Rate goes over 95%, it is cut back to 95% automatically. If the final Hit Rate is 0 or negative, you will automatically miss.
If the hit is successful, a check is made to see if it is a critical attack. A critical attack doubles final hit damage. Also, assassins have a 50% chance of making an automatic kill if they get a critical attack.
Critical Rate = Unit Crit Rate + Weapon Crit Rate + 0.5*Skl
Ex: Critical hit:
A unit has a chance for a critical hit. (15%)
Your weapon adds a bonus critical chance. (35%)
Half of your Skill level is 12. (Final: 47%)
A random number from 1-100 is 20, so you get a critical attack.
Hit Rate for offensive Staves is calculated differently, and they cannot critical:
Staff Accuracy = 30 + Mag*5 + Skl – Target Res*5
Hit Damage = Str or Mag + (Weapon Might + (Weapon Triangle))[*2, if Effective] – Target Def or Res*
Ex: Hit damage:
Your unit has a Strength 22. (22 HP)
Your weapon has a Might 12 and has a triangle advantage over the target, +1. (13)
Your weapon is effective against the target. (13*2 + 22 = 48 HP)
The target has Defense of 22. (Final: 26 HP)
The target originally had 35 HP, so it now has 9 HP.
Note: If the attacker had received a critical, the damage would have been 52 HP, and the target would be dead.
*Note: Strength and Defense apply for physical attacks, Magic and Resistance apply for magic attacks.
The Island
a) Zone Closures
i) In order for the game to conclude quickly, one zone will close every round. If you are in one of those zones the turn that it is closed, you will be mod-killed, dragon-style. Don't worry though; five turns after a zone closes, it will reopen.
b) Island Description
i) This island is located in the middle of a sea of molten lava. It wasn’t always an island, in fact there was once a fortress located in the center, but it was attacked by dragons, which slaughtered the inhabitants, and volcanic activity surrounded the area and destroyed any remaining survivors. What was once a refuge for the mighty, now lay in disorder and ruins. And so you have been brought here to one of the most dangerous places on Earth, where a huge dragon awaits his next kill and erupting lava threatens to crush you all in painful agony. Prove that you are the best that the world has to offer.
Note: See Database thread for Terrain info.
Voting
Voting may be enabled for a round to encourage further activity. You may vote for a mod-kill at any time, but they will only be killed if there is a majority of players voting for that person (just like in mafia!). No one is required to vote unless I specify as such. Kill Votes MUST be in Red!
You may vote for zone closing. Every round, one zone will close via Light Rune. If nobody votes, I will choose. Closure votes MUST be in Orange!
You may also vote for zone protection. Every round, lava will spew from the surroundings and rain on one area randomly, causing 10 HP damage to the players currently residing in it. If you vote for zone protection, the next round I will protect that zone. Protection votes MUST be in Blue!
Rewards may also be voted upon to encourage further combat. It does not happen in every round. The reward will be publicly announced with recipient and item. Rewards must be in Green! Preferably lime.
Rivals and Supports
You may declare a Rival within the first 3 turns. They must be at least two areas away at time of declaration. If you kill your Rival, you gain a permanent +2 to Strength, Skill, Speed, Defense, and Resistance. If somebody else kills your Rival, you do not get the bonus. Rivalry is publicly declared. You may only declare a Rival once. (It is encouraged to Rival someone back.)
You may not leave the island if you have declared Rivalry and your Rival is still alive, or somebody else has declared Rivalry on you and they are still alive.
You may also declare a Support within the first 3 turns. They must be in the same area as you at time of declaration. Whenever you are in the same area as your Support, you get a +3 boost in Strength, and a +3 boost in Speed. However, if your Support dies, you receive a -3 drop in Strength and -3 in Speed for the rest of the game. Supports are mutual, so both parties must confirm. You may declare silently by PM, but both parties must PM me. You may only declare a Support once.
Leaving the Island
In order to leave the island with a Warp Staff, you must fulfill a few conditions:
1) Warp staff must be used by a Magic-user.
2) Rivals for the player being warped must be dead.
3) The person being warped must PM me as well, and cannot attack or move that turn.
4) The person being warped cannot be rescuing anyone.
5) Lone Wolves cannot be warped, since they would lose.
Tips
Make sure you pay attention to and pick up your victim's weapon. It does not happen automatically and is not required, but it could help out later.
Search for items frequently, and remember to check some places more than once. Perhaps trade them to other people for the ones you can use. If you know someone dropped an item there, look for it specifically as to pick that one up first.
This game, unlike Mafia, requires people to make up their own groups. I highly encourage group warfare, but be careful not to team up with a Lone Wolf! Research your teammates if you are unsure.
Also unlike Mafia, there isn't a penalty to discuss outside the game. Feel free to connive outside this topic. You can do this by PM, the Chat Room, whatever.
While the option to warp off the island is there, you will need a Magic-user to accomplish this. I suggest teaming up with a variety of individuals to maximize your potential. You may still wish to kill off threats to ensure that you stay alive long enough to succeed, and to steal the items you need.
Characters with high defense sometimes have low resistance. Try using magic to kill some of your stronger enemies.
Winning
What do you get if you win?
All winners will get $1000 prize money and +3 Rep.
