So if you can end up with a character like this, consider what you now have: a strongly motivated, well fleshed out character with reason's to act beyond the immediate plot. Whatever is motivating the character to act is an obvious character hook for other events and conflicts. You have a character who has an understanding of what he wants, understands why he's doing what he's doing, and who will - if left alone - step up and start getting proactive in pursuit of his larger goal. All without needing to be a lovable rogue or dashing scoundrel. tl;dr Abe Lincoln sucks. What. That doesn't provide any argument against Abe Lincoln, if anything, he fits it just as well, if not better! Lincoln, strongly motivated, understanding that he needs to take action against those that own slaves, some of the most controversial actions of his time period, is proactive in pursuing the larger goal of national unity while still maintaining personal freedoms. He could have let things be, but there came a time to do what was right, and he stepped up to the plate.

I'm sorry, but that's not why Lincoln ended slavery. He ended it because he knew it would help to keep European countries from allying the South, as, after the EP, it would seem as though they were supporting the system of slavery if they helped the CSA. This is the main reason he did the Emancipation Proclamation.
So many wanna-be history majors... guys let's just focus on the game.

>didn't vote luke skywalker or mal reynolds :I not even going to touch that "you wouldn't understand because Northerner" post lol scenario: Leene's Square, 1000 A.D., Guardia Millennial Fair. A young boy of humble origins meets a stranger who volunteers for a test of a machine set up by his well-intentioned friend. Said stranger carries an artifact which causes this machine to malfunction, and she disappears into thin air, leaving the artifact behind. The boy then decides not to risk his life by picking up the artifact and going after the stranger. Chrono wasn't in the original 32 because Frog's too pro and I didn't send in nominations, but if a "reluctant" hero can be "proactive" than I think we're using slightly different definitions of those terms (i.e., by my count they are roughly antonymous) e: also lol @ LotR getting 0 nominations? Something tells me that if Frodo and Sam had been in this, most of these same people would be voting Sam right now

Okay, wow, that picture isn't even that bad. It's something that happened over 100 years ago, get over it. The painting is a famous painting that is well regarded as a piece of American history, since Shrek beat Abe it only makes sense to edit it; it's a playful gesture.
I've had it with these eliminations. You guys have just been taking as many swipes as you can get in order to undercut our joy at having our character win, simply because you're mad your character didn't win. It doesn't make sense, and it's all just poor sportsmanship. Grow up. We can't all win. I thought you guys out of everyone would know that, but I guess I was wrong.
edit: This was more in response to the mods removing the picture, not at you Softguitar. Sorry if you were offended.

Please don't make assumptions that I wanted Abe to win. I also never said Shrek was a bad character for this battle. Besides, I only decided on the last moment who to vote for. I don't care who won, it's just a game.
That picture just made me uncomfortable. I would have also mind if you changed the faces if Abe won, so that Shrek was being killed. Playful or not, it's still bad taste to me.
*edited to put in 'Shrek' for readability... or something.

wait I thought when you intentionally picked the worst characters you were supposed to do it so you could seed your favorite to win in finals the second part is actually the key part of that strategy so it's interesting no guys i'm missing something but i'm on the verge here edit: oh god what happened here how can we make sure flint stays in line

This isn't directed at everyone, but you people are, for the most part, immature and petty. This is supposed to be for fun. I voted for Abe (mainly to be difficult as he was behind) but I totally don't care that Shrek won. It's not the end of the world nor is it eternal glory. Clam down!

protip: If you didn't care about the outcome of the character battle, you wouldn't vote. You may not care very much, but you must care to some extent otherwise your finger would not have hit that vote button.
I also find it rather amusing that you think it's in poor taste to satirise your government when here it's practically sport.
