^_^ Since our Mafia game is going to be about Heroes anyways, we may as well have a thread dedicate to it. There's too much to cover about this show in a single post. I'll start by saying: Sylar is the worst/stupidest villian ever. He's constantly being defeated by those weaker than him. Mohinder? He got defeated by Mohinder and a standing map? You suck! Anyways, if you have questions about the show because you've never seen it before, feel free to ask here. Just remember not to cheat. I do encourage you all to watch it though. The episodes can be seen at NBC.com here: www.nbc.com/Video/rewind/full_episodes/heroes_01.shtmlDiscuss Heroes... NOW! PS: LOST is better. Wohoo!

Yeah, I definitely recommend watching those. I like Heroes so much, mostly because of the superpowers and the whole grey area that would be comparable to real life where there's no definite good and bad (one of the problems I have designing the mafia game). Sometimes though, it feels ridiculous, or missing something, especially when they don't give us enough action, but it still hooks you.
I don't think Sylar is the worst villain ever, but some things that the writers script seem unbelievable, like mentioned standing map. You would think they would screen their ideas with people before setting them in stone... but nevertheless, I recall him becoming quite ultra-powerful. He's smart and crafty, and it was quite a tall tale to believe that Hiro could kill him (though he might still be alive).
Anyways, I think Lost is great too. I'm only halfway through the 2nd Season, but I like how much detail they put into the characters, you can't help but feel for each one of them.

While I do love Heroes, I must admit that I like Lost more.
Also Ernie, when you start watching season 3, hang in there. A lot of people lost interest in the show at the start of season 3. Even I started losing interest in the show. But it DOES get better, and has a great finale.

Yeah, there are a ton of problems regarding the writing in Heroes. For example, why doesn't Hiro stop time, cut off Sylar's head, then return time back to normal? We already know he can affect the stuff around him when he freezes time so why doesn't he just do that? Weird. Regardless, it is still a great show overall. The episode where Nuclear Ted and that cop hold Bennet's family hostage is one of the greatest episodes I have ever seen. It was amazing in every single way.
LOST, wow... Just wow... The season finale of LOST was the phenominal. i wont say anymore except wow... just wow...

Hopefully Heroes will become better funded so it can afford all the special effects it needs, if that's the problem. I want to see everyone use their powers more....

CY: regarding sylar, after watching the series off and on, it appears that sylar is immune to Hiro's abilty to stop time... I'm waiting until the release of the DVD series to go back and watch it (lousy 56k dialup...)

No, that's not it at all. Sylar couldn't stop Hiro from saving Ando in the last episode. Hiro was just too dumb to stab him while freezing time, that's all. I can see why they dont make Hiro kill him like that though. It would be way too anti-climatic and a lame way for the main villian to die. It looks like the writers have painted themselves into a corner.

I was referring to the first attack hiro made on sylar, Hiro stopped time, went to swing sword, and if I remember correctly (i could be gravely mistaken) is that sylar managed to break the sword in two while time unfroze...

Yeah, I thought that was odd too. Either Hiro broke under the pressure, or Sylar figured out how it works and can break it himself. Still that doesn't explain why Hiro doesn't try again, other than it would be anti-climatic like common said.

Yeah, the whole thing referring that Hiro can stop sylar is a bit of a let down, but maybe the writers aren't aiming for a good finale, but are wanting to blow our minds with a spectacular Season two premier...
I just realized that we should have seen this earlier with "future" Hiro...

Hiro didn't have the guts or skill to pull off the kill. That's what the whole Kendo training with his father was for. It was to ready him, or something cheesy like that.
Yeah... Heroes is a good show and all, but the writers also suck at the same time. There are too many unlogicals and plot holes to make it a great show. Example: They let Sylar escape once he was stabbed? What? They should have follow him into the sewer AT LEAST. Meh, I still enjoy it.

I just simply REFUSE to believe that ALL THOSE PEOPLE that were there allowed him to slowly drag himself into the sewer. So I highly doubt he's still alive somewhere.

No... That's what the whole cockroach thing is all about. (A common theme in Heroes. The very first line of the first episode was about the marvel of the creature.) Notice how there was a cockroach poking out of the drain cover in the end of the scene. He never dies after being defeated so many times. Which, I think, could at least be written better than what we're used to seeing. Mohinder and the map? And then they just leave Sylar in the building instead of killing him? You suck, writers!
So yeah, Sylar is, unfortunately, still alive. The writers suck. Blah blah blah.

I just finished the series, and I think it was the best thing I've seen in a really long time. I HATE Syler, not because he's poorly written, but because he genuinely scares the crap out of me. I hate things that are impossible to kill. But I think the scenarios with him are all plausible. You have to remember, people aren't really thinking clearly after they've been almost dismembered. The "why don't they just do this!?" is because we're looking back on it and had time to think of everything they could have done, and because we know more than the characters do. It's called dramatic irony.

I agree with psychomax about hindsight. I personally am obsessed with the show and even I can get annoyed by some things. But that the whole point of the story, it drags us in... either making us hate it or love it. Common, the cockroach is just a symbol of indestructibility.... the whole thing that a cockroach can't be destroyed by a nuclear bomb...kinda gives that fact away! Also it not necessary that sylar dragged himself to the sewer, he could have possibly been dragged by the person "worse than the boogeyman" or someone else. He does show hints of being good though and that scares me more than the fact that he isn't dead! The whole scene where he tries to reform and his mom tells him he has to be the best is just sad! I think in the next eps. he might change from either evil to good. Or from stupidly evil to mastermind evil that no one can ever stop (now THAT would be terrifying)!!!

Well, Sylar DOES NOT have Hiro's ability. The only reason he could stop hiro was because Hiro "unfroze" him before going for the kill...(It would be against Hiro's principles do anything else!) He does have good reflexes though and excellent hearing (from Dale!) so he could stop Hiro who was hesitant anyways to kill his first man!!

I missed the episode where Sylar and his mom meet again. I heard it was sad though. I might just change my opinion on Sylar if it's a good enough backstory. Sylar as a good guy? That would be excellent. (more so if he continues taking people's brains out)

Was the episode with Sylar and his mother on the second season? I still have a more episodes to go to be done with the 1st...grrr... I do have to say that I find Lost more addicting than Heroes. I also don't see what the deal is with people saying that the third season was disappointing, I found it the most intriguing of them all!!! Especially with the whole Jacob thing....I'm sorry but that was pretty freaky!! At least you can SEE Sylar lol.

There's only been one season of Heroes. And people badmouthed season 3 of Lost because of its very slow, pointless start. Once they got done with the whole "Mystery Island with your hosts Jack, Kate and Sawyer" thing, it did get a lot better.

Oh okay, then I must have not seen that episode with Sylar yet. I thought it was pretty interesting with Jack, Kate, and Sawyer and their experience with the Others. It did focus on only those three pretty much, but I never found it to be dull. I can't wait to see what happens now that Sun is pregnant! I'm also still leery of Juliet.....she's a hard one to read. I'm also very much anticipating what's going to happen when that boat shows up!!! For once, Ben is trying to help them. He's such a pathetic little man, but very manipulative. That also sucks that Charlie died. And speaking of dying, what is it with that guy who's died twice and keeps showing back up?!?!
