Medic is very fun to play while also being a fairly easy class for new people to pick up, plus they can be used in any situation.

I've never been good with medic, ever. I don't get why people say it's easy. 1) Make sure to keep teammates in between you and the enemy 2) If you have a mic, USE IT. 3) Call out if you see spies, or if a flanking scout or pyro attacks you 4) Remember that you build uber faster on injured targets than on perpetually overhealed targets 5) Heal 125 HP classes, especially scouts. They'll love you for it. 6) Sometimes you can get away with picking off some stragglers if your pocket has things under control. 7) In addition to #1, if you uber a teammate with the intent of taking out a sentry, make sure to stand in front of them (i.e., closer to the sentry). Sentries have a crapload of knockback, especially when you get to level 3s, and since they target the closer player, your partner will be able to take it out w/out much issue. 8) Ignore the BS you'll probably get in a lot of pub servers. They expect you to save them from halfway across the map and complain if they die. 9) You are probably the MOST IMPORTANT class in the game! Why? You save people from DYING. Stay alive, and don't follow an idiot pocket into certain death (there are some exceptions of course). Hopefully that helped some. I can do other classes if enough people want them. 4 (extension)) except during setup so tell people shooting themselves during setup that they are dumb and need to stop wasting ammo.
also 11) when deciding on who to pocket, don't just decide by class. use tab to quickly check the scoreboard and see who on your team is doing better.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on what you said about 4, puppyduck. First of all there's a resupply cabinet right there during setup so you don't have to worry about wasting ammo. Also there is the possibility that a medic joins late so a soldier or demo could quickly fill up his uber before the round starts. I guess it doesn't matter if the medic was there from the beginning though.
This reminds me of something that happened on dustbowl once. We were close to capturing the final point but there wasn't much time left and there was a sentry up. I was healing po-ki and he was using his sticky bombs to damage himself to fill up my ubercharge. In the end we ended up winning thanks to the ubercharge. I don't think we would have made it if it weren't for him damaging himself to quickly fill up my ubercharge.

Darthpokey it only applies during setup, during which the rate is boosted as though you were healing an injured person. Having a soldier/demo hurt themselves to help you build uber AFTER setup though, I'm all for.
